Gender Identity & Sexual Orientation Support

26Health counselors recognize the whole you, helping you navigate your path forward as you embrace your sexual orientation.

LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy

Research says that our LGBTQ+ community will seek mental health counseling at higher rates than the general population. And we have specific mental health needs, often due to the stigmatization,  discrimination, victimization and trauma LGBTQ+ individuals face from society. LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy honors the challenges of navigating negative societal feedback surrounding sexual identification and other related issues like: higher instances of suicidal thoughts, body dysmorphia and eating disorders, trauma, depression and anxiety.

Your Whole Mental Health Story Includes Your Sexual Identification & Orientation

At 26Health, we have counselors and medical practitioners with long-term experience serving the LGBTQ+ community. We lead Central Florida in LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy which is a key to effective mental health treatment for the LGBTQ+ population. Even if you are suffering from “traditional” mental health issues like depression, anxiety or PTSD, your therapist must recognize your whole mental health story includes your experiences as a member of the LGBTQ community.

Most of our patients at 26Health come to us having made terms with their sexual identification and orientation; they are “out.” But that doesn’t mean they can’t suffer the after-effects of getting to that comfort level–navigating ongoing aspects of society like people devaluing their innate human rights, workplace discrimination or family, religious or social-group rejection. Because we are part of or allies to the LGBTQ community, all of our therapists innately practice LBGTQ Affirmative Therapy. That said, our therapists are continually expanding their education in this area.

Coming To Terms With Sexual Identity & Orientation

Sometimes the process of accepting your sexual identification and orientation can be helped with LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, especially if your family or community aren’t natural allies. We can help you navigate these challenges and provide you many resources to support you in your journey.

Maintaining a Supportive Community Through the Years

Aging members of the LGBTQ+ population suffer disproportionately from loneliness and isolation, especially in age groups who lost so many friends during the worst of the AIDs crisis. Our therapists are here to help you develop and maintain a supportive social network that will serve you and your health as you enter the most golden of years.
