Dr. Luisa Mena (she/her) is the Chief Medical Officer for 26Health. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York, Dr. Mena completed her undergraduate degree at the University at Albany, SUNY, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a double minor in Chemistry and Spanish Literature. During her undergraduate studies, Dr. Mena dedicated three years to molecular genetics research.
In 1999, she was recognized as one of the researchers involved in the test pilot and Phase IV clinical trials for the rapid HIV test, and she was listed in the published findings.
Dr. Mena earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from UNIBE School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic and completed her Family Medicine training at San Lucas Hospital in Puerto Rico.
She began fulfilling her lifelong dream of serving the community in 2016 when she joined True Health as a Family Medicine Physician and later served as Medical Director. A seasoned healthcare leader, Dr. Mena recently transitioned to the role of Chief Medical Officer. With a strong background in both clinical practice and strategic leadership, she brings a patient-centered and data-driven approach to advancing organizational goals, enhancing care quality, and driving innovation in healthcare delivery.
Nominated by her peers, Dr. Mena received the 2020 Provider Champion Award, recognizing a provider who goes above and beyond—especially in the face of adversity—demonstrating initiative, integrity, accountability, and reliability. She was also honored as a Provider Hero during the COVID-19 pandemic, further reflecting her dedication and impact.
